It is time, love, to break off that sombre rose,shut up the stars and bury the ash in the earth;
and, in the rising of the light, wake with those who awoke or go on in the dream,
reaching the other shore of the sea which has no other shore.

I love poetry.
Some of my all time favourites -

1.The highwayman by alfred noyes - I dont know anyone who isn't a fan of this poem. And if you haven't read this one yet, I am surprised you're still at my blog. Go get some pseudo-intellectual poetry stimulation first. hmmph! (and then come back? okay?)

2.Macavity, The Mystery Cat by T.S. Eliot- This was the very first poem I liked. And still do. "He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity." It's obvious why I like this poem so much. ;)

3.She walks in beauty by Lord Byron- Yes ! yes ! This poem is all about me.

4.ALL poems by Pablo Neruda. I wish I could follow spanish just so that I could read all his original works. One of my faves:-

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way

than this: where 'I' does not exist, nor 'you',
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep.
- Pablo Neruda Love Sonnet XVII

5.Last but the not the least. Came across this poem a long time back in a diary I used to maintain a longer time back. I dont know the poet.. and I am going crazy figuring out whose handwriting its written in .. because its certainly not mine !

SHATTERED

What if I can't feel anymore and turned my back on you?
Walked out the door?
Would you let me be if I looked away?
And if I needed you to watch over me-
how far wou ld you go?
How much would you show?
Would you wait for me if I was led astray?
What if I felt passionate tonight and I searched for you?
Turned down the light?
Would you give to me if I asked you to stay?
And if I needed to escape it all-
would you set me free?
Would you recapture me?
Would you remember me if I ran away?
What if you were sick of it all and gave up on everything?
To brace for the fall?
Would you care for me if nothing else mattered?
And if you were weeping in the rain-
could I wipe your tears?
Could I dispel your fears?
Would you let me see if your soul had been battered?
What if the rain fell down upon meand knocked me to the ground?
Then fed on me?
Would you comfort me when my wits have been scattered?
And what if I lost all belief-
of my immortality?Of my destiny?
Would you cry for me if my world was shattered?

And in case you are wondering (or were wondering) what's with the weird pic with the fog and all ; its the view from my window right now as i sit procrastinating with my blog rather than go and study for my test which is in ...um...well,6 hours.

Here's to poetry and beautiful mornings. I hope they always remain the same.

Reminds me of the novel, "Message in a bottle" . I haven't seen the movie, but if I was Theresa Osbourne I would skip the ocean for this river anyday.
By the way, this is where i live. No, not on the tree or in the river or any place visible in the picture really.I live in a big castle surrounded by robots, superheroes and mutants. They obey my every whim and desires. And i dont share them.. so forget about any wishes you were beginning to have . Muhahaha ! >:)

ANYWAY ... This place actually exists.Seriously,no jokes. And it exists in my city !! I didnt click it myself. Rather, i dont even know who clicked it. Picked it up from a random fellow-orkuteer's album. Now, I think I should have asked rather than slyly steal it away. wish I could locate its exact spot.

p.s. i changed my blog's template ... if only anyone would notice. Cruel, cold, apathetic, selfish, materialistic world. *sniff*

"What Do Women Want?"
by Kim Addonizio

I want a red dress.
I want it flimsy and cheap,
I want it too tight, I want to wear it
until someone tears it off me.
I want it sleeveless and backless,
this dress, so no one has to guess
what's underneath. I want to walk down
the street past Thrifty's and the hardware store
with all those keys glittering in the window,
past Mr. and Mrs. Wong selling day-old
donuts in their café, past the Guerra brothers
slinging pigs from the truck and onto the dolly,
hoisting the slick snouts over their shoulders.
I want to walk like I'm the only
woman on earth and I can have my pick.
I want that red dress bad.
I want it to confirm
your worst fears about me,
to show you how little I care about you
or anything except what
I want. When I find it, I'll pull that garment
from its hanger like I'm choosing a body
to carry me into this world, through
the birth-cries and the love-cries too,
and I'll wear it like bones, like skin,
it'll be the goddamned
dress they bury me in.

Finally a poem that's different.

hmmm :-)

What Wyntey Means

You are very charming... dangerously so. You have the potential to break a lot of hearts.
You know how what you want, how to get it, and that you will get it.
You have the power to rule the world. Let's hope you're a benevolent dictator!

You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in.
You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising.
You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.
You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.
You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

You are a seeker. You often find yourself restless - and you have a lot of questions about life.
You tend to travel often, to fairly random locations. You're most comfortable when you're far away from home.
You are quite passionate and easily tempted. Your impulses sometimes get you into trouble.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.
You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.
At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

Dear Diary,

Today, finally all the hammerings stopped. i woke up wondering if during the night the wonder-ceiling had fallen on my head and i had gone to heaven. have i told you about wonder-ceiling? i havent? well, i will... another story.

anyway, heaven felt really nice as there would be no hammerings on top of my room in heaven ever again.and for that matter, my room isnt really a room.its a huge hall with a fountain spewing diet pepsi right in the centre. i also have a fridge that keeps hot things hot and cold things cold and airtight things airtight. oh.. it also manufactures zero calorie potato chips, cakes and biryani.
hell has the same things, only with calories and the fridge working in reverse.

i felt the pinch of reality when i stumbled on my carpet, neatly folded up and kept beside my bed. (Seriously mom, for the last time - its a medium sized 3 foot by 2 C-A-R-P-E-T NOT A SITTING MAT !! ). but i still couldnt hear any hammerings. did the skinny guy finally hammer his own toenail ?! i remember the agonising sunday mornings i used to wake up to the sounds of hammering ... bang right above my room's wonder-ceilinged roof. i hate skinny guys .
maybe my curse worked and there is one toenail-less skinny guy right now repenting his spite at a devastatingly gorgeous ,intelligent , blessed with powers of telekinesis princess of the kingdom of andulasia from whom he used to steal calorie free potato chips ... hmm..... *sigh* *Sigh* .
a quick question at mom informed me today was the workers day off.

yeah, my home is going through massive reconstruction work. and although, it involves the construction of an entire 1st floor, somehow the only progression which reverberates to the ground floor is the hammerings on the roof -of the ground floor. somedays it gets so bad that we hit ourselves on the head with heavy objects weighing 5 kilos and above and not feel a thing.
Apart from that, when the 1st floor actually gets completed and the relief of having saved my neurons from permanent damage sets in, the ground floor gets the hammerings. i am sure hammerings on the walls of the ground floor will not be worse than those on the roof. right? RIGHT?

apart from the hammerings, since the past few days i also had to endure endless sessions of mission what-walls-to-break-on-ground-floor with my parents. mostly the sessions included enthusiastic suggestions from dad, critical appraisal by mom and me sitting with a glazed look on my eyes.

M-"so, we break the wall of this room to make an entrance via the garage to the main gate? if so,then also break the other wall to create way to the drawing room"

D-"yes, that will be the side entrance. But for the main entrance we have to break the main wall to make a gate and construct another wall right after the current entrance for the main door."

Me- " phoolon sa chehra tera, kaliyon si muskaan hai ...... "

i was singing in my thoughts of course. next time i ll sing out aloud. they are my parents. they already think i am autistic or whatever anyway.
now, i cant wait to start my first hammering-less Sunday in years.

bye!

what made them laugh,
and why were they polite.
what unnerved them,
how they loved
and why they didnt.
i knew what politics was
and, that Charity is a little selfish
i knew why lions roared,
and which ones were old.
i knew that ethics were productive
but spurned even by the brave.
i knew selfishness as a vice
and music somewhat a weakness.
celebrations were celebrated,
and also advertised.
if i knew everything..
then, why did i repeat the same mistakes,
again and again......and again.

p.s. anyone game enough to compose music on these lyrics?

recently i had been to 'daffodils'. i am naming the restaurant this time because i have stopped being scared of anyone suing me for defamation. i forgot i have been living in india my whole life... so yes, yet another restaurant. a decent one to look at.. if you dont stop to wonder why the waitresses dress colourful(different colour per girl) and the waiters so bland.(white every guy, and maybe a black tie)
i refrained from asking any of the waitresses for a table ... (what if she's a customer!!)

me and my friends-3 of us- we got a table that could seat 7. we didnt mind exactly .. each of us happily settled down 2 seats each with 1 chair left over per person to carry our bags, keys, cellphones etc and the 7th chair for the other stuff we carry around instead of dumping it in the nearest dustbin. this intresting stuff comprised mainly of pamphlets promoting some new shop opening in some corner of some street or a science tutorial advertising its academic prowess and how many percentage of its students got through the medical entrances every year.now if you scan the newspapers everyday line by line ,you might come across an article whining about commerce students from restaurants being accepted into renowned medical schools.whining because the writer of that article has been preping for entrances since 2 years and she never got any such miracle performing pamphlet. now, thats what i call the power of advertising.and well, maybe newspapers too.

back to the restaurant-- the menu itself was an epic masterpiece. the first page informed me, in China it is believed that good matchmakers made good cooks.presumptious as i am, i believed for the sake of entertainment that its vice-versa is true as well. 1 paragraph ago, i had read that emperors of ancient china used to cook for their subjects as a hobby.so now...well, you get the picture, right?
no wonder the population explosion in China has increased exponentially over the years. it had to, with all the royal matchmaking!... and now they have promotions in their corporate sector being granted to those people who treat their parents right. honestly, this last piece of info was taken from a newspaper and is no figment of my imagination.

this was the info i could get from page one of the 2 inch thick menu. i wanted to read more but i was eager to get started on the cuisine part of the menu even more. food was nice ... IF i ignore the cold and rock hard french fries i was served along with my burger. apart from that, food was nice ...and with such spacious seating arrangements, how can i not be grateful? but then again, its up to you to take seriously the reccomendation of someone who cannot differentiate waitresses from the customers. BUT THEN AGAIN, err.. again, if people are as philanthropic as they look.. it wouldnt really matter. right?

do check this one out.i love daffodils.

Mindsight!!

Came across an article on child psychology.here's an extract which i found intriguing --the way a child's logic develops!

"Offer a child around eighteen months old two different snacks, such as crackers or apple slices. Watch which one the child prefers. Let the child observe you taste each of the snacks, as you exhibit clear disgust at the child's choice and show a strong preference for the opposite choice. Then place the child's hand between the two snacks and ask, 'Can you give me one?' Children younger than eighteen months will generally offer the snack they liked; older ones will offer the snack you preferred."

what would you have done in a similar situation? And depending on your answer, now you know how old you really are!! ;)

"In the 22 years of my life , after having experienced whatever I have , from the pain of having cut my finger on a razor to the high of making it to DCE or starting my professional career , from the excitement of having given someone a blank call to the terror of her dad finding out my number and calling me back , I have realised a thing . That I am just a traveller , who started this journey with nothing , and one day , will end it with nothing . As I travel , I will come across varied things . Thunderous applause , venomous comments , beautiful faces , luxurious objects , broken promises . But the echo of every applause will die down eventually , every hateful comment will lose its sting after a while , a beautiful face may reveal an ugly soul with time , no object of pleasure can lead to prolonged satisfaction , and it was only my own expectation which hurt me in the guise of a broken promise . So I need to realise the truth that without attaching myself to these mirages , I have to enjoy the journey . Life is not about clinging to these ever changing stations on the way . It's about understanding that it's all just a journey , to end in nothingness one day ."

Ok . I admit . All this sounds just like Sholay's Thakur trying to talk about arm wrestling techniques , so I will avoid public consumption of my personal ideas about life now .

This is written by a friend of mine who'd rather remain anonymous. The ideas above were simply too true to allow them to rot away in my inbox.

time- 10 pm
location- some restaurant ( cant name it, or i'll be sued for defamation)
my mood - forbidding ...

we ( my entire family) ..entered the restaurant despite my ranting and raving and nose screwing at seeing the horrid sickly pink colour of the paper napkins...[i cannot tolerate the colour pink ...yuuccckkk!] .

anyways , since my stomach started roaring ... i had to give in. i am my appetite's slave. thankfully, i was allowed to pick up the table of my choice (atleast!) ...and as usual , i picked up a table in the corner ..where i could have a gala time eating as well as spying on other people's activites in pink-paper-napkin restaurant.

there were some college students celebrating god knows what with much fanfare and some alcohol. one of them was blowing his nose on the said napkins .

serves those horrid things right. if you are pink you deserve to be treated likewise.

other tables had the usual couples or families ..nothing noteworthy. except one perhaps....

a woman and a little girl. the kid couldnt have been older than 4. and the woman looked rather young to even have a kid. she was calling her 'ma' ..so i guess they were mother and daughter.
The kid had spunk! i had to give her that.

...i winked at her. she winked back...
a moment later she pushed out her tongue at me.

ahh..the joys of being small....the rudest things thy does are considered as nothing but cute!

my manners prevailed ...i gave her an amused smile. too amused perhaps. she grinned back . i noticed her front two teeth were missing.

the 2nd commandment - kids with both their above 2 front teeth missing are to be presumed mischievous unless proven otherwise.

the thought made me laugh .... to which the girl responded with a high pitched screech.

was that a laugh?!?! ...i better start revising my commandments. oh wait ... that was a laugh ... her cheeks were flushed and she looked exactly like a monkey waiting to snatch away my banana . (yep, i hate bananas too. so her circus performance was a much needed diversion).

unknown to both of us ...her screech had attracted the attention of our respective families. my little friend and i were guffawing away madly at each other...oblivious to the perplexed stares of her mother and mine.
the 3rd commandment-- the devilry of childish dispostion has, but only one enemy -- adults.

and since i was the one who wasnt 4 years old , i was given a weird she's-gone-nuts-and-making-my-baby-laugh look.

ouch.

i could have hardly said that out aloud.
and a smile would be further misconstrued.

cute kid....

time- 10:45 pm
location- same restaurant (minus the doormat which now was in front of the paanwala's stall some metres away)
my mood- " :| "(yep ...despite the pink napkins)
